august 07New lens
I've just bought a Sigma 30mm f1.4 lens for my Nikon D50. I've only taken it out once so far (up to Kalamunda with Oscar) but it seems pretty sweet. I also had a play around with a D40 the other day - I didn't like it as much as the D50. The D40 is smaller (to the extent that it doesn't feel quite right) and they've taken away some of the controls.

Extension tubes
I've recently bought a Kenko Automatic Extension Tube Set for my camera, which allows me to focus on very close items with my existing lenses. Effectively, it gives me a macro lens without the huge price tag. I haven't used it much yet, but there are few photos in the gallery from around the garden.
Winter daylight saving time
I think this would be a great idea, far better than summer daylight saving time anyway. In summer there's plenty of sun, so there's no need for a bit extra after work. In fact, it's nice when it gets dark early because we get some relief from the heat. In winter, we need the extra hour to get household chores done, such as taking the dog for a walk or mowing the lawn.
Winter daylight saving time - it just makes sense.
