Tomorrow I go to Europe, so this will be the last thing I post here
for a while. I've updated the
movies page with Bandits,
which I saw on Thursday. Everything's ready for my trip, I just
have to pack. I'm sure I'll put something up on the website when
I get back.

This time next week I'll be on my way to Europe. Hooray! Everyone
is really jealous, as well they should be. I have several planned
updates for harshbutfair that I haven't got around to yet, and being
realistic I am unlikely to do before I leave. Specifically something
about the digital camera, a bowling page, a DVDs page, and some
very funny experiences from an anonymous friend. But just wait until
I get back, then I'll have lots of photos to upload and interesting
things to talk about. And while I'm writing something, I would like
to curse the Czech embassy for taking so long to return my passport.
They would definately be on my
blacklist if I wasn't so keen to go there.

I got my digital camera working in Linux, but not with
gphoto. I
tried for a couple of hours, but it was difficult. It took a while
to get it compiled, and then I had to mess around with the USB
drivers and it still wasn't working. So I tried
jphoto, it's written
in Java so I assumed it wouldn't work. But it did! So use jphoto,
it's really easy to get it working and it does everything you need.
Here's a picture of Rusty to keep you amused. No doubt there will
be many many more photos later.

I received my digital camera today. It appears that I was charged for
postage, so I'll be calling them up tomorrow to have a word. It's
fairly late now, so I'll post something about the camera later.
I'm still working on getting the
software (gphoto) working in
Linux. I've updated the movies
page with O which I saw on Saturday. I've also updated the
CD pages with my purchases from
Saturday morning - two albums and a single for $1 each. Sweet!

I ordered a
digital camera yesterday.
I decided on a Kodak DX3900
- 3.1 megapixel, 2x optical zoom, and with a free 32M compact flash
card. I should receive it on Monday. Unfortunately my credit card
has taken a beating in the process, I now have more cash in my
wallet than I have credit. Luckily I get paid next week. It's now
only 16 days until I go to Europe. Exciting! I'm still trying to
decide what to do during my four days in England... there just
isn't enough time to do most things.

Went to the computer show at Burswood Dome this morning. I wasn't
expecting it to be very good, and it wasn't. But since I had free
passes it didn't matter much. This afternoon I started working on
modding a new case. The plan was to have a 120mm intake fan on the
bottom, and a 120mm exhaust fan on the top to create a wind-tunnel
effect. However, it's not going to work because my motherboard is
so big that the bottom two 5¼" drive bays are unusable.
Grrr... back to the drawing board.

We had a very slack day at work yesterday. It almost felt like a
weekend, which was great because for us this weekend is a long
weekend. Hooray for Labour Day! I wonder if anyone knows what it's
for. I don't. I like this error message. It is amusing, while being
completely useless. I wish we could make error messages like that
at work. I've added some new content today - the
rules of table tennis from uni.
This all came about because we made a table tennis
table out of some desks and a bit of cardboard. What fun! I've also
archived the front page content from January.
