Lightning over the hills

December 25, 2002
The year is almost over again. This year has been the best year ever for me, for two main reasons - Europe and Andrea. Work has been pretty good as well, with some interesting challenges and four trips to Sydney. This will continue early next year with another trip to Sydney. Next year I'll also be trying my hardest to get more money, plus my housing situation will be up for review (again). I've added some more photos to the gallery... this time it's Rusty opening his Christmas present and some photos taken from my upstairs window.

Finally I've got around to creating a photos section. At the moment it only has Europe, Sydney, and Melbourne photos but I'll probably add more before too much longer. I've also been updating the movies page, I'm now up to 50 this year. I should be able to at least equal last year's total of 55.

I've been slack on the updates again. I still haven't got my Melbourne photos organised, I've get around to it eventually. I've finally got all the frequent flyer points I'm entitled to from Qantas, ANZ, and Holiday Inn. And now I've been booked for next trip, two weeks in Sydney in January for work. Hmmm. Posted my first real article to K5 tonight. And I got Hand Maid May on DVD today. I should get a DVDs page up sometime.

Y2K bug

October 13, 2002
A lot has happened since the last update, so I'll just summarise. My housing has been resolved satisfactorily, I'm now renting a nice place in a good location. I didn't update harshbutfair for a long time because I had no Internet access at home, but now ADSL has arrived! Hooray! For the last week I've been on holiday in Melbourne, I intend to have some photos up soon. Melbourne was fun, but unfortunately I have to go back to work tomorrow. Qantas and ANZ have been screwing me around a lot with the frequent flyer points from my credit card, they are really quite pathetic. I'm going to have to harrass them some more. I've discovered that STA Travel isn't the only website around that still has Y2K problems. Look! Acton Real Estate has the same problem!

My housing situation is still not sorted out. I've found someone to share with, and a cool place to live. We put in an application on Friday, and we're meant to hear back from them tomorrow morning. I really really hope we get it, otherwise I'm in a bit of bother. I just really want to get everything sorted - the uncertainty isn't much fun. It looks like I'm not going to get time to finish PFC8, which is a bit unfortunate. I've got the basics done, but it's still far too slow. I thought about buying DVDs today, but I didn't. Maybe I'll have a look later this week.

Not much happening. My housing situation beyond the next four weeks is still undecided. There's still a reasonable possibility that I'll find someone to share with. Hope so. Living alone would be both expensive and crappy. And I've discovered that home loans require a far larger deposit than I thought they did. Not to worry, I'll just keep renting for a while longer. In my spare time I've been thinking a bit about Programming Fun Challenge 8. I think I'll go in it.

Stupid Chinese fax-spam

August 15, 2002
I got this spam yesterday at work. Now this isn't remarkable in itself, but I thought the content was pretty funny. The title of the spam was New Loss Weight Plan, and the rest of it was in Chinese. And attached were two images, both of which were before and after photos that had been scanned from a fax. Why would you bother? I'm seeing Signs at the movies tonight. Hopefully it's ok.

Stupid Y2K bug

August 4, 2002
I'm amazed. After a year and a half, there are still Y2K bugs to be seen on such high profile websites as STA Travel. It looks like I'm going to miss out on tennis today, because it's a bit wet outside. Perhaps I'll email the people who I've been meaning to email for a while. I thought about ordering some DVDs yesterday, but I didn't because Monkey and Evangelion are still too expensive. I should pay closer attention to the prices so I can purchase when they're cheap. The other thing I should do today is finish investigating Melbourne hotels for my holiday.

July 30, 2002
Went to the movies tonight and saw Bend it Like Beckham. I really enjoyed it. My desk at work now contains fluffy orange dice and a blinkenlights sign. I'm going on holiday again in 67 days (only Melbourne this time, but w00t anyway!).

Castle Neuschwanstein

I finally completed my Europe diary today, and got all the photos uploaded. It's taken me a long time (almost three months in fact) but I wanted to do it properly. Having been working on the diary for several hours today, I'm reminded how great it was and how I want to go back. It will happen. And it would happen faster if work would pay me a decent amount. Grumble grumble. Yesterday I bought the parts I need for my car, it came to a total of A$262. Now I'm going to watch an episode or two of Astroboy or Mysterious Cities of Gold, and then I'm going to bed. Have to work tomorrow.

My car has died. The thermostat housing is corroded to hell, so it leaks like crazy. Stupid car. So this weekend I'm not going anywhere, instead I must rely on people to come to my place. I watched Thirteen Ghosts on DVD this evening, it wasn't very good. Did my tax return last weekend, looks like I'll come out quite a bit in front. This is good considering the state of my car and me moving house in a couple of months. I thought I might start looking for a place this weekend, but that's kinda difficult with no car.

July 10, 2002
Aarrgghhh, hard day at work today. Locked in a small room doing documentation all day. Tomorrow and Friday will be the same. I'm not going to the movies tomorrow night because there's nothing good on. Some people think Blade 2 counts as something good, but then some people have very low standards. There's not even anything decent on at the independent cinemas. Bah. Bowling tonight was hard work, but I won two out of my three games without getting my average once. Of course the first one was complete crap, but we won't talk about that.

Hero's Square, Budapest

July 6, 2002
After a busy week, I finally got around to doing more on my Europe diary. This time I've completed Austria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. I'm over half way! This week has been a bit nasty - I picked up an eye infection somehow which has been uncomfortable since Tuesday, it's getting better now though. I'm taking a long weekend this weekend, because I think I need one. I've also updated the movies page, and archived the front page from March.
